Breathtaking Medieval city to explore
ITINERARY
- DAY *1*
Travel by private coach from your school to York.
Your first visit is to one of the world’s most magnificent cathedrals- the York Minster. This truly inspiring cathedral will amaze you with its beauty, history and incredible gothic architecture.
You’ll then head off to climb to the top of the historic Clifford’s Tower and immerse in centuries of history at one of York’s most iconic sites and experience stunning views over the ancient city.
No trip to York is complete without a visit to the Jorvik Viking Centre, which will be your final visit of the day. The Jorvik Viking Centre is a museum containing lifelike mannequins and life-size dioramas depicting Viking life in the city. At JORVIK Viking Centre you are standing on the site which revealed some of the most astounding discoveries in modern archaeology.
After your tour, you’ll check in to your accommodation. In the evening, take a leisurely walk into town and take a night tour by boat on the River Ouse. The perfect end to the day!
- DAY *2*
After breakfast you’ll head off to visit the Eden Camp where you’ll see the story of the Second World War recreated using sights, sounds, smells and moving figures.
Next, you’ll travel to the imposing Castle Howard which is just outside of York and is one of greatest palaces of Europe! Enjoy a tour of the House, explore The Gardens, Walled Garden and have fun at the Skelf Island Adventure Playground before heading back to your accommodation in York.
Finally have a stroll into town after dinner for a night tour on the Ouse by boat.

After breakfast, you’ll check out of your accommodation and head off to your first visit of the day- the very impressive National Railway Museum. Here you will Immerse yourself in the home of iconic locomotives and an unrivalled collection of engineering brilliance!
The final part of your tour takes you to the terrifying York Dungeon which is a must-see, thrilling attraction for older children (8+). Prepare to come face to face with the mighty Vikings and learn all about their Saxon enemies before meeting some of York’s most notorious characters including the (in)famous Guy Fawkes and local witch Isabella Billington as history is brought to life before your eyes! Feel the dark shadows of the black plague and experience the fearsome torture chamber as you laugh, learn and scream your way through the cities most ‘orrible history! With live actors, dark history, immersive sets and amazing special effects… the only question is are you brave enough to step into the depths of the York Dungeon?
After your final visit, you’ll travel back to school having experienced some of the best sights of York.
