The Battlefields & Memorials of The Great War
Belgium is strewn with sights and memorials from the two World Wars, particularly the First, or Great War. Cemeteries are scattered around the countryside – there are literally hundreds around the area of Ieper, including Tyne Cot near Passchendaele, the largest cemetery for Commonwealth forces in the world.
And there are dozens of accompanying memorials, including the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing in Ypres, where you can witness the Last Post Ceremony, which takes place at 8 pm every evening. Depending on the length of your tour, we can also include some of the memorial sites of the Battle of the Somme in your itinerary.
For students studying the First World War, nothing brings home the impact of the conflict like a visit to Ypres.
And don’t forget, we also have excellent itineraries for visits to the Somme. Click here for more information.
